Obituary

Throughout Beau’s life, it was said that he filled a hole in his family’s hearts. He was a golden ray of sunlight who filled the lives of those around him with humor, tenacity, and a lot of love and snuggles.

Beau came into his family’s life exactly when he was needed. His mom and sister set out to meet a few puppies one day, not sure if they would find the right one to bring home, and the moment they saw Beau, they knew he was meant to be in their lives. He was a shy, fuzzy puppy who laid on his sister’s chest the whole ride back to his new home. He quickly became adjusted to his new life and was always down for an adventure, even as he grew older and his body grew more frail; his spirit was always full of sunlight. He adopted many nicknames throughout his life: Boo, Buford, Beausy, Beauser, Doogel, Boofy, Beauregard, Boofus, and more. Beau was a kind, friendly presence and he always treated everyone like a friend, often greeting people with his signature “smile”. Both his vet and groomer said that Beau was one of their favorite clients. He loved walking in the woods, playing hide and seek, watching the neighbors walk by while he lounged on the front porch, laying in freshly fallen snow, going for car rides and sticking his head out the window, and pretending to have to go outside so that he could get a treat. Bedtime was his favorite time of day, and it was a task he could never do alone. Often times forgetting his large stature and that he neared one hundred pounds, he would try his absolute best to sit in your lap and snuggle. Eye contact and physical touch were of the upmost importance to Beau, even in his final hours. Snuggling and looking into your eyes was his favorite. When it came to his brothers, he would try to give off the impression of toughness, often faking growls and wrestling, then immediately turning around and asking for pets and snuggles.

In the last year and a half of his life, Beau endured two CCL tears and, even when his mobility was limited, he persevered. It was a tough chapter for everyone, but he always maintained his sweet, sunny nature, and a slightly clumsier walk. His hopeful outlook is something we will try to carry on in his honor, amid the pain of his departure. He is survived by his dad and mom, Dan and Shelly, his sister, Lauren, and his brothers, Matthew and Aaron. Ten years with Beau was not nearly long enough, but truthfully no amount of time would have been sufficient. Beau will be missed until we see him again in Heaven, but the warmth of the sun will serve as a reminder of him: our little sunbeam.
